My Impression of Dear Mr. Kilmer
What's my impression on Dear Mr. Kilmer?
Hello! I am back with another blog just for you today! Woo hoo hoo this needs some music. Cue! Woah I am just joking only. Seriously, don't ever cue the music. Today, your author is a little tipsy today because even I also don't know why I am addled today. Well, scratch that. Let's get this started!
Today, I am going to talk about my impression of the story called Dear Mr. Kilmer. What is the story about? Well, to summarize it for you, the story is about Richard Knight, a farm boy who is inspired to be a poet after reading Joyce Kilmer's poetry. A student named Hannah is being shunned by the classmates just because she came from a German background and that's how it begins.
Initially, I assumed that this story might going to be exactly the same as the novel in Form 4 in Malay Language that is related to all those World War II, etc. But that proves me wrong. When I started reading the book, I realized that it isn't only about war (I love reading about war and patriotism it's just that not everyone knows that I love those stuff besides reading Sherlock Holmes). It is about the society in the past when the people said men hunts for food, go to war, fight here and there and girls just casually stay at home, taking care of children, cook food, etc. The society in the past stereotyped people because of their gender and this contrasts to the modern society.
Who said boys are not allowed to love literature and be soft-hearted? Seriously, it's their choice to be whatever they want. We are no one to choose how their life should be. Just mind your own business. That is what I thought as I read the story. I kind of chivvy at some particular parts of the story because it's sickening to see people classify them into this and that. Plus they even discriminate Hannah just because she's not American I'm-
Despite that, I actually like the story. If you ask me to rate it, I would go to 8.5 out of 10. The flow of the story that portrayed the behaviour of the people in the past (which some of them are carried on until today) which actually gives us a lesson or two. I learnt that we should not segregate people who are in contrast with us. Just because they didn't share the same religion, race or skin colour doesn't mean that they need to be singled out like that. Besides that, we should not stereotype people because every single one of us has the right to make our own choice on our own lives. Stereotyping is no good at all and this could cause a commotion.
That is all from your author Ashikin and I will see you next illusion!
